CARE OF BRONZE
Dear Collector,
I appreciate your purchase of a limited edition bronze sculpture and hope you will be happy with it for years to come. While subtle changes in the patina are to be expected as the bronze ages, regular maintenance will prevent deterioration, delay oxidation, and keep the appearance of the sculpture as close to its original finish as possible. Please clean and wax your sculpture as follows once a year (twice a year if you live in a humid environment).
CARING FOR YOUR BRONZE SCULPTURE
1. With a clean, soft, cotton cloth, carefully wipe the sculpture to remove dust and fingerprints. Clean hard-to-reach areas with a new, soft-bristled paint brush. Use this brush exclusively for dusting your sculpture, and cover the metal portion that holds the bristles with masking tape so it won’t scratch the patina.
2. Remove any surface residue from insects, "sticky fingers," etc. with a slightly damp cloth and allow to dry thoroughly.
3. Open a can of Trewax, a, natural wax available at hardware stores. Using a second new paintbrush, taped like the first, stroke the brush back and forth across the top of the wax (do not dip or dig into the wax). Apply a very thin coat of wax to the entire sculpture.
4. When the wax has completely dried, use a clean, dry cotton cloth to gently buff the surface.
The following substances can damage a patina; avoid letting the sculpture come in contact with them:
- Cleaning substances, such as bleach, oven cleaner, glass or porcelain cleaners, vinegar
- plant fertilizer
- furniture polishes
- Alcoholic beverages, citrus juice, soft drinks
The best placement of a bronze sculpture in your home is out of direct sunlight, away from sources of water, cleaning solvents, and pets.
