by Laurie Shepherd
Paperback, 175 pages
Dembner Books, New York (October 1981)

At age 29, Laurie Shepherd left a job teaching art in Wabasha, Minnesota, to follow her dream of building a log cabin on the Mississippi River in northern Minnesota. The book is a journal of the author's year spent building that cabin. It went into three printings, was sold throughout the United States, and was on best seller lists in Duluth, Minnesota, and LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Although currently out of print, copies of this book can be found online at Amazon.com. Prices vary.

Laurie also wrote a children's Christmas play, The Chimney Sweep's Christmas, which was first produced on radio at station KAXE in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. A year or so later, it was produced on stage in McGregor, Minnesota, and at the Myles Reif Performing Arts Center in Grand Rapids. It is carried by New Plays for Children.
